Yoga has become increasingly popular and there's no denying why this practice has become a staple in so many people's lives.

Whether you're taking a yoga class with friends or joining an online session you can expect to reduce your stress levels, improve your focus and flexibility, and promote better overall health and wellness.

Yoga has been scientifically proven to enhance our well-being and enrich our lives. Here are three great reasons to try it and immediately upgrade your lifestyle.

1. Reduces stress and helps you focus

Yoga is designed to promote relaxation for both the mind and body. The combination of physical poses and controlled breathing can help lower blood pressure and heart rate.

Regular practice encourages us to default to a state of calm, rather than stress. Without worries consuming your mind and movement, you can begin to focus better and hone in on the things in life that truly matter.

It’s hard to avoid stress in our lives. Fortunately, yoga is an easy and proven way to reduce stress and its accompanying effects on our mental and physical health.

And you don’t need a huge amount of time or have to tackle advanced poses to reap the rewards. Even just 5 minutes of gentle yoga can do wonders for your mind and body.

2. Improves flexibility

Yoga requires you to move your body with flow, pliancy, and resilience. The often unfamiliar yoga poses help stretch and strengthen your body and improve flexibility and posture as you adapt to the challenges over time.

Changes in flexibility don't happen instantly. It generally takes about three to six months of regular  practice to experience increased flexibility. But once these developments begin, you’ll start to feel less stiff and constricted in your daily life.

Start with a gentle 15-minute session and work your way up from there!

Increased flexibility can also enhance your breathing allowing for deeper, more efficient breaths. Better breathing promotes blood circulation and supports our internal organs. So flexibility is about more than movement; it's about supporting our overall wellbeing.

3. Encourages self-care and wellness

Incorporating yoga into your daily routine encourages you to focus on other areas of your life. It motivates you to connect with your body, mind, and soul in newfound ways.

Understanding these elements will help inspire you to eat better, move your body more, and take time out to practise more self-care.

Again, always remember quality over quantity. Start with a few minutes every day and you’ll quickly begin to feel more empowered in all aspects of your life.

What to wear to yoga class

When practising yoga, it is important  for your body to flow seamlessly. So, you don't want to feel restricted by what you are wearing. Whether at home or out in a group yoga class, the right clothes will help you glide through your poses.

Soft garments that feel like they are barely there are ideal for daily yoga routines. Think leggings and a soft tank. For colder days, throw on a comfy jumper.

That said, slightly fitted is best so your clothes don't move around too much during your movements  – especially when doing downward-facing dog and other inversion poses.

For a no-fuss bra, try our Rhea bralette, which is made from TENCEL™ MicroModal and can provide support, comfort and still allow you to move freely.

Choosing the right fabric is important. We recommend clothing made from natural fibres like  MicroModal because they are lightweight, stretchy, and breathable.

Whatever fabric or clothing you choose for your yoga sessions, just be sure it’s something light that allows maximum movement.

Now, it's time to get started. You got this!
